1.Background of consultancy assignment/ project

  • Elephant Foot Yam (EFY) is produced by a community partner of the WWF in Tanintharyi Region.
  • An EFY value chain study has been done in 2017 but focused mainly in Southern Chin State.
  • Potential uses indicate prospective market demand, which needs to be verified.

2.Objective of the consultancy

To determine market conditions of EFY to guide the development of the EFY Community Enterprise.

3.Specific Objectives and Research Scope

The market research aims to identify potential markets EFY community enterprise and propose an appropriate course of action to approach and access the market.

  1. Sector Analysis
  2. Product and Production Capacity Assessment
  3. Markets Scanning
  4. Marketing Strategy & Recommendations

4.Methodology

Desk research, interviews (in-country, online), FGD (for community)

5.Outputs/ deliverable of performanceand time schedule

A final report with the following content:

  1. Executive Summary

  2. Introduction

  3. EFY Sector: Conditions & Hindrance for development

  4. Product and Production Capacity

  5. Markets

  6. Marketing Strategy & Next Steps

  7. Conclusion

  8. References

  9. Annexes

6.Required profile:

a) Education and experience on marketing and business management

b) Experience in value chain and marketing assessment

c) A very good understanding of Myanmar market and preferences

d) Expertise in business development especially in the non-timber forest product sector

e) Familiarity with the Myanmar policy on harvesting and trading of non-timber forest products

f) Innovative and creative

g) Ability to write a good English report
